FULL TRANSCRIPT —
‘‘From Birth to Business is a series of real conversations with Australian mums and first time founders about new product development and small business success. My name is Brit and I am your host.
‘‘I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant, also battling the longest common cold in history. I think I've just clocked three and a half weeks, so my immune system is absolutely shot. But around a month ago, I started to reach my birth story capacity.
‘‘For the last 8 or 9 months, I have been bingeing all of the birth stories you could imagine, all the common ones, and all the random ones that I found after going down rabbit holes and I started to wonder, what am I going to listen to once actually birth this baby? Surely I'll want a break from these kinds of stories. So where do my passions really lye? What am I interested in learning about?
‘‘And as someone who's worked in marketing for the last ten years, I'm excited by business and bringing products to market and realized that there wasn't really a place where I could find a collective of stories from specifically mothers that have taken a simple idea and turned it into a business. And I think that is incredibly inspiring and something that I, as a new mum, want to listen to, I hope other mums want to consume too. But more importantly, I think it's something that mums who also double as founders, want to get involved with and want to share and help other women be successful in business.
‘‘So as I was doing my research and really as I was buying products for my own baby, I realised that all of the About Us pages I was stumbling across carried a very similar essence. And it was that the woman who founded the business either did so during her pregnancy journey or postpartum, or in the early days of motherhood. And she did that because she identified that there was a product that she couldn't find, and she wanted to fill that gap. So she created her own. And so some of these mums have business experience, most of them do not, and they've just figured it out on their own.
‘‘I decided that instead of just putting my feet up and getting away from screens and technology and laptops and everything that I thought my maternity leave would look like. I am doing the opposite and I am birthing this podcast. So I hope that it is a platform that will help female founders share their unique business stories to both inspire any mums that are sitting at home with an idea but not sure where to begin. And also just help increase the discoverability of these brands.
‘‘And even if you're someone listening who has no intention whatsoever to start something new, but you want to support Australian mums in their own ventures, then this is the place to find those brands.’’
